Chicago Cubs: Why the Cubs Should Sign Tyson Ross?
The Chicago Cubs would be really wise to sign Tyson Ross for the future
The Chicago Cubs are apperently set for the Spring Traning, but the rumors are linking the defending World Series Champions to a big free agent target. The Cubs are one of three teams rumored to go heavy on starting pitcher Tyson Ross, and Theo Epstein won’t be called crazy to sign Ross.
The 2017 rotation is set with Jon Lester, Kyle Hendricks, Jake Arrieta, John Lackey and Mike Montgomery, but Ross wouldn’t be a mess on this rotation. Last october Ross underwent on a surgery procedure to fix a thoratic outlet syndrome and he was given a four-to-six months recovery time. That means Ross could be ready for the Spring Training or when the season already started.

If Ross come to Chicago, he won’t be in a need to rush his recovery to start quickly. Joe Maddon could give all the time he needs to bring back his game that made him a top trade target in the 2015 season, and when he is ready the Cubs could study how to use him going forward.
Imagine the season is underway and Ross is good to go, Mike Montgomery shows he could use a little more time in the pen, Ross could take the 5th starting spot. Or if everybody is playing on the top of there game, then Ross could be used as a 6th starter, given the pitchers more time to rest, avoiding unecessary injuries and mostly important, being ready to rule the postseason as the Cubs try to go back-to-back.
Ross could be a solution for the 2018 season. Arrieta and Lackey are set to hit free agency after the 2017 season. Rumosr salso say Arrieta and the Cubs could reach an agreement on a contract extention, but if this does not happen, the Cubs could face a big need. Ross could be use as a bridge for pitching prospects like Dylan Cease and/or fill the spot while Epstein waits on japonese superstar Shohei Otani to be posted.
