The 3-13 Chicago Bears will pick third in the 2017 NFL Draft.

The Chicago Bears lost to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon in their last game of the 2016 season. Things did not go well for the Bears in 2016, as they went 3-13 on the season. This is their worst record in franchise history since the league went to 16 games. Simply put, it has not been a great year in the Windy City.

That being said, at least the Chicago Bears will be in a good position in the 2017 NFL Draft. With their 3-13 record, the Bears will be up with the third overall selection in April’s draft. They will follow the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers who will pick first and second in that order.

The Jacksonville Jaguars also finished the year with a 3-13 record, but the Bears will select ahead of them in the first round because they had the weaker strength of schedule. The Jaguars and Bears will swap back and forth between having the third and fourth picks in each round following the first.

It will be interesting to see what the Chicago Bears do with that third overall selection. A quarterback to replace Jay Cutler could be on the wish list, with Clemson’s Deshaun Watson and North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky looking like intriguing options.

If the Bears do not want to take a quarterback, defensive superstars like Texas A&M edge rusher Myles Garrett and Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen would make a ton of sense. The Bears have a talented defensive front seven. That being said, Garrett and Allen are big-time players who would make any defense better.

Even though the losses throughout the season were difficult to watch, if they can land a franchise quarterback or elite defender, it will all be worth it. The Bears have put themselves in a great position to improve through the 2017 NFL Draft.

It will now be up to general manager Ryan Pace and company to take full advantage.
