Who will be in the lineup for the Chicago Cubs on Opening Day 2017?

The Chicago Cubs will open their 2017 season on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals. It is not only the first game of the year between the two bitter rivals, it is the first game of the 2017 MLB season.

The defending champion Cubs obvious have an explosive offense filled with a ton of top-end talent. However, they are also an extremely deep offensive team that can mix-and-match in many different ways on a daily basis.

As usual, it will be interesting to see how Joe Maddon puts together a lineup on a daily basis. Maddon is an extremely creative manager who likes to mix things up to keep his guys fresh. Also, the Cubs have a ton of versatile talent that allows Maddon ultimate lineup versatility.

It is nearly impossible to predict who Maddon will play on a daily basis, so you can imagine how tough it is to do four months ahead. That being said, opening day is a time where you can expect him to put out his “everyday lineup.”

Playing against the Cardinals, their number one starter will likely be Adam Wainwright or Carlos Martinez, both right-handers. Just something to keep in mind as we go through the lineup projections.
