Chicago Bears mock draft: Full seven-round picks
Jerell Adams (6-foot-5, 247 pounds), TE, South Carolina
The last time the Chicago Bears went to South Carolina for a receiving target, they ended up with Alshon Jeffery.
They may go there again and get themselves another good target.
Sometimes when you look at a lot of film at a guy, you tend to fall in love with his play and it could shade your analysis.
Some may say that is what is happening with me and my analysis of Adams. Looking at so much of his tape, I genuinely feel that as a professional, Adams will turn out to be a better player than Hunter Henry, the highest-rated tight end in this year’s draft.
It takes a lot for a receiver to have a good season when he has the atrocious quarterbacks that Adams had with the Gamecocks. Things were so bad that head coach Steve Spurrier quit halfway through the season.
Adams was the second-leading receiver in 2015, making 28 catches for 429 yards and three touchdowns. With his size and long arms, he gives the quarterback a large catch radius.
This will come in handy for Cutler when he has Jeffery and Kevin White taking up space downfield. He can go underneath and create a mismatch. He can be effectively used in red zone situations, something the Chicago Bears struggled with in 2015. A red zone touchdown here or there, and they could have battled for a playoff spot.
Adams and Zach Miller could be a good duo for the Bears. They may not be Rob Gronkowski/Aaron Hernandez good, but they could free things up for the wide receivers and help thin things out for the running backs.
Next: Round 4: Can he be Cutler's heir?
