It’s March, and there’s madness. Unfortunately, us folks in the great state of Illinois are missing out on all the action. For the 3rd consecutive year in a row, a team from the state of Illinois failed to make it to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

People all over the country are excited to see their favorite collegiate teams play for the national championship. But why should everyone else have all the bracket fun? Introducing the Best Chicago Athlete Bracket Tournament. While university alums are arguing as to who’s team will make it to the next round, Chicago sports fans can vote on, who will be the best Chicago athlete of the bracket and place themselves next to names like Michael Jordan and Walter Payton.

3 quick rules for the bracket-

  1. In an effort of minimizing the amount of players, and having players that people have actually seen, the list will exclude players pre-1975.
  2. Regions where made to make a more competitive bracket. Some players would benefit more, if the regions were organized specifically (an all basketball or football region).
  3. Michael Jordan, Walter Payton, Stan Mikita, and Mike Ditka, were purposely left off the list because of their high probability of winning.

Intriguing first round matches-

More from Da Windy City

  • Kane v. Hester- Showtime vs Hester, this matchup is a tough one. On one side, one of the best wingers in Blackhawks history, that is still in the prime of his career. On the other is the greatest returner in the history of the NFL. With his record breaking career, Hester could give Kane a first round scare.
  • Rodman v. Pierzynski- Although Rodman is the big favorite, Sox’s fans cannot let their guy go down without a fight. Rodman was only in Chicago for those 3 championship years. In the 7 years he was here, A.J. was a fan favorite, and a key contributor to the ’05 World Series.
  • Buehrle v. Cartwright- Another battle of Reinsdorf’s key players. One, the best pitcher of the ’05 series, the other, the man in the middle for the first 3 peat of the Bulls. Should be interesting with Cub’s fans vote.
  • Sosa v. Deng- Bulls players have it rough in round 1. Deng a 2 time all star, and Sosa, the 1998 NL MVP. Considering the problems Sammy was in, late in his career, Deng could get the upset.
  • Delle Donne v. Sutcliffe- Elena is barely in her 4th season with the sky, but, she is flat out dominating the WNBA. The 3 time all star, and ’15 MVP, is a step above everyone on the court. Sutcliffe had a great stint with the Cubs, winning the CY Young award and leading the team to NLCS.

Make sure to vote on the winners. Polls will close on Saturday evening. Let me know who is your favorite to win with the hashtag #ChicagoBracket.
