Jerald Hawkins (6-foot-6, 305 pounds), OT, LSU

The Chicago Bears made a big upgrade in the line by signing Bobby Massie. With him at right tackle, Kyle Long can move back to right guard and be his old dominant self there.

The Bears still have a need on the line. With Jermon Bushrod gone, they will need a left tackle. Charles Leno is slated to be the starter at the moment, but he is just a stop-gap until the team gets its starter.

Jay Cutler needs to have his blindside protected to be successful. Too many times he was either running for his life or on his back.

Jerald Hawkins can help fix that.

Hawkins was a four-sport athlete while in high school. He played football, baseball, basketball and track. That athleticism comes into play when he is blocking.

Hawkins played in 36 games for the LSU Tigers, and he started all of them. He has the flexibility to play either tackle side. He has quick, light feet to handle the left tackle position. He also possesses long arms to better handle edge rushers. Playing with the Tigers gave him an advantage, since LSU plays a pro style offense.

Hawkins will need to bulk up to be a consistent blocker at the higher level, but so do most players. He has the skills needed to be a successful professional. Having him and Long on the line would give the Bears one of the most athletic lines in football.
