Chicago Bears free agency: Analyzing the first day
Tracy Porter, Cornerback
Porter signed a one year, prove it type of contract for the league minimum last season. He then proceeded to prove that he belonged in the league, and on Wednesday he was rewarded.
Porter had a team-high 22 pass breakups in 2015. With him in the defensive backfield starting 13 games, the Chicago Bears ranked fourth in the NFL in pass defense. They allowed 224.6 yards per game.
Porter was a great help to the Bears in the locker room as well. He was a true leader on the team.
Kyle Fuller struggled coming out of the gates in 2015. He was getting burned often, and he was getting discouraged.
Then Porter took Fuller under his wing and showed the second-year player how to be a true professional. He showed him how to change his eating habits and how to really study game film.
Fuller took Porter’s help to heart and got better as the season progressed. He had a solid season for the Bears, and the his play, along with Porter’s, gave the Bears a solid starting duo.
Porter had just one interception last season, but it was a huge one. He intercepted an Aaron Rodgers pass that helped seal the Bears’ Thanksgiving night upset of the Green Bay Packers.
Now Porter is cashing in on his good play. He will continue to represent the Chicago Bears and be a leader in their locker room.
