Sean Smith, Cornerback

Janoris Jenkins is the popular pick for teams looking for a cornerback. Sean Smith may be the better option, however.

Smith has largely been flying under the radar. He was a big part of a Kansas City defense that was stingy in giving up points. He is a better, more consistent coverage corner than Jenkins, and he would come in cheaper.

Smith had two interceptions in 2015. As a unit, Chicago Bears cornerbacks had three interceptions combined. A starting cornerback duo of Kyle Fuller and Sean Smith would be formidable. Add in Tracy Porter and that is a pretty good cornerback rotation.

What makes Smith attractive is his height. He is 6-foot-3, a height that can match up well with the tall receivers around the league today. He can stay with them and fight for the ball when it goes up.

The Kansas City Chiefs had a choice to make on whether to keep Eric Berry or Smith, and they went with Berry. Not a bad choice to make.

It may seem that Kansas City’s loss may be the Chicago Bears’ gain. It would be a nice sight having Smith patrol the defensive backfield in Chicago. The other teams can trip over themselves trying to sign Jenkins. The Bears would be good in going after Sean Smith.
