Chicago Bears draft prospects: Tight ends
Jake McGee (6-foot-5, 255 pounds), Florida
You have to give it to McGee, he has seen his fair share of college games. He played three seasons at Virginia, where he was originally recruited to play quarterback.
In Virginia, McGee was one of their most dependable receivers. Of his 71 catches in Virginia, 38 of them were on third down, including six of his touchdowns.
McGee enjoys making the big catch. “My job is to catch it and help the chains move,” he said. “Help this offense. That’s what I’m going to continue to do. Whatever they ask of me, I’ll get it done.”
After his stint in Virginia, McGee went to Florida and played as a graduate transfer.
In 2014, he broke his leg, and it cost him the entire season. He was then granted a sixth year of eligibility because of the injury.
McGee has a long, athletic body who possesses good speed. He can go downfield and runs good routes. He has good hand-eye coordination and can make contested catches.
In 2015 at Florida, McGee had 41 catches for 381 yards and four touchdowns.
McGee is also a good blocker. He has a high motor and attacks the defender well, opening up holes.
McGee could be a dependable target for Cutler. He enjoys making the big, contested catch, and could block when asked. If his medical reports are clean, he could be a good pickup.
