Chicago Bears draft prospects: Tight ends
Bryce Williams (6-foot-6, 260 pounds), East Carolina
Williams is another tight end who looks like a power forward. He was named to the All-American Athletic Conference First Team, making 58 catches for 588 yards and four touchdowns. For his career, he has 96 catches for 1,045 yards and 13 touchdowns.
In 2015, Williams had seven games in which he made five catches or more. He offers a very good catch radius for the quarterback. He catches the ball in stride well, and moves around like a wide receiver, as he runs crisp routes. He shows aggressiveness to go after the ball when contested as well.
Williams can add some versatility to the offense. He can line up on the line or wide out, and even in the backfield as well.
Like many college players, Williams will need to bulk up in the pros. He is too lean, and the weekly beatings of the NFL can wear him down. It comes to haunt him also when he blocks. He has a high motor and he tries, but he is more of a pass catcher than a big blocker.
Williams has a secondary tie to the Chicago Bears. His cousin, Brooks, played for the Bears
The fact he played for East Carolina may keep Williams’ stock low. Since the tight end slot is thin, however, teams may take a second look at him. He should be available in the fifth round and the Bears should be one of those teams taking a look at him.
