Chicago Bears free agency: Offensive linemen
The Chicago Bears need to solidify their offensive line. The unit played well early in 2015, but age and injuries took its toll late.
The Chicago Bears suffered through a lot of injuries in 2015. One of the hardest hits was to the offensive line. The line was playing well for a good part of the season, but age and that injury bug hit, and the line was a mess at the end of the season.
In their last four games, the Chicago Bears’ offensive line gave up 13 sacks. Compare that to the previous 12 games, when they gave up 20.
It is important for the line to do its job so Jay Cutler can stay back and find receivers, and the rushing attack can do its job.
Cutler will be 33 years old when the season starts. The number of hits he has taken start to take its toll, and that rocket arm of his may start to lose its power. Remember, Father Time is undefeated. Cutler needs to be kept upright.
The Chicago Bears are probably going to move on from Matt Forte, so the offensive line has to work well for Jeremy Langford, Ka’Deem Carey and whoever else will be running the ball.
There will be some offensive linemen available through the draft, but there could be some good, veteran help through free agency.
The Chicago Bears have gone through free agency to get offensive linemen, but they went with some players with a lot of mileage on their bodies. If they can find a player or two who are good, but still young enough to be effective.
Here is a list of possible targets on the offensive line for the Chicago Bears:
