Chicago Bears Free Agency: Cornerbacks
Janoris Jenkins (64 tackles, 3 interceptions, 1 forced fumble) — Los Angeles Rams
Many consider Jenkins one of the top two cornerbacks available in the draft. The Rams will need to make some key decisions, as they have eighteen free agents ready to hit the market, including their two starting cornerbacks.
It appears that the Rams are making a concerted effort at re-signing Jenkins (even though he is eager to test free agency) and possibly leaving Trumaine Johnson walk.
Jenkins has the ability to read the quarterback well, and to jump routes. He has 48 passes defended and 10 interceptions in his career. He also has 256 tackles, so he can do anything that is asked of a cornerback.
Jenkins appears to have put his college troubles behind him. Everyone knew he had the talent coming out of college, but his arrests and drug use made him a question mark.
With the Rams, Jenkins has not had any trouble. He has been a model citizen, and showed his professionalism when preparing for his opponent. He knows how close he was to having the game taken away from him, and he is one of the few who learned his lesson.
“I just love football,” Jenkins said in August. “I’ve been playing since I was 7. I almost had it taken from me one time and I told myself and made a promise to my mom and my kids that I won’t ever let it happen again.”
Jenkins has kept his promise, and now is on the cusp of a big payday.
