Chicago Bears Draft Prospects: Cornerbacks
Playing in a pass-happy division, the Chicago Bears need depth at cornerback. There are some good cornerbacks available in this draft.
I wrote in a recent article about how the Chicago Bears had an up-and-down year with their cornerbacks. They started out slow, then got solid, but slowed down once again toward the end.
Being in the NFC North, cornerbacks are under a lot of pressure. Dealing with Aaron Rodgers, Teddy Bridgewater and Matthew Stafford, a corner needs to be on his toes at all times.
The Chicago Bears got good play from Tracy Porter, and he will probably re-sign with the team, and Kyle Fuller, after a slow start, is a solid player.
Besides that, however, there is not much.
Porter will be 30 years old when the season starts, so the Bears can draft a cornerback and have him ease into the league, much the way the plan was for Fuller’s rookie season before injuries forced him to learn on the fly.
The Chicago Bears can have the rookie play on nickel and backup on other plays, spelling the starters. Then, when the time comes, he will be ready to step in and become a starter.
