Chicago Bears Draft Prospects: Outside Linebackers
Eric Striker (6-foot-0, 225 pounds) — Oklahoma
Eric Striker is an interesting case. He has the talent to be a first-round pick, but he is considered, at best, a tweener, in terms of his size.
Striker made the All Big 12 First Team for the last two seasons. In 2013, he was on the Second Team. He led the team in sacks with 7.5 (fifth in the Big 12), and tackles for loss with 19 (second in the Big 12). He was fourth on the team with 67 tackles.
Scouts are creatures of habit. They get an idea of what certain players should look like, and if a player does not fit that, they will not give him a second look.
Striker is considered to be a middle to late round pick. I would be surprised if he was picked before the fifth round. Whoever drafts him, however, will get a steal.
Because of his size, Striker is a fierce competitor. He cannot afford to take any break on the field, so his motor is always on.
Striker has very good pursuit speed, and is able to go sideline to sideline quickly. He can use his speed to beat blockers to the corner, and force them to holding penalties. He will have to get stronger so he can get better at the point of attack. If a blocker catches him, he is usually finished.
Striker is another player who is familiar with playing a 3-4 scheme. He could help the Chicago Bears as a rotation player.
