Chicago Bears Position Review: Running Backs
The Rest of the Backs
While the Chicago Bears did well with their running game, they had high hopes with some of the other backs they had, but they suffered through season-ending injuries.
Jacquizz Rodgers came in and was expected to get a lot of carries after Forte. Rodgers had 14 carries in the first five weeks, which was second to Forte. The coaching staff was probably hoping he played well enough to have Jeremy Langford be the third string and have him do more observing this season.
Rodgers also contributed on special teams.

Then Rodgers broke his arm during the Kansas City game and was placed on injured reserve, ending his season.
Fox spoke about losing the hard-working Rodgers.
“I think he’s a guy who kind of surpassed probably our expectations and contributed on the field whether it was on offense or in the kicking game,” Fox said. “He’s a guy that will be missed but over time he’ll get better and we’ll get back in the future.”
Senorise Perry was on the same boat as Rodgers. He was going to be part of the wave of running backs the Chicago Bears wanted to use this season. He played well in the preseason, but then broke his foot and he was lost for the season.

The Chicago Bears have a lot of holes on the roster, but the running game looks to be one of their solid units. A little bit of tweaking remains for the Bears to have an elite unit, but if Matt Forte does return, their running game should be at or near the top next season.
