Pat Shurmur

Shurmur has been a long-time Philadelphia Eagle. He was their quarterbacks coach for ten seasons (1999-2008) before he went to St. Louis to become their offensive coordinator. He left there to be the Cleveland Browns head coach for two seasons. Then he returned to Philadelphia, and was their offensive coordinator since 2013, and coached their last game this season.

Shurmur will interview for the Eagles head coach vacancy, but should he not get hired, he would be a good option for the Chicago Bears.

Fox also considered Shurmur for the offensive coordinator job in Denver, so Fox is familiar with what he can do.

Shurmur worked under Chip Kelly, so he has experience with his high-powered offense. He has plenty of experience in other offenses, so he can adjust that offense to fit his personnel.

Shurmur has the experience to deal with Cutler, but he also has the experience to work well with the running game. His rushing attack does well. The Chicago Bears have some good running backs (even with the expected departure of Matt Forte), so they could thrive under Shurmur.

If Shurmur can help the rushing attack to play even better, that would take some pressure off Cutler, making his job a little easier. He would welcome that.

It may be difficult to get Shurmur away from Philadelphia, but the Chicago Bears would be wise to go after him should he be available.
