Chicago Bears lose again, continue to slide in the rankings

The Chicago Bears lost another close game on Sunday, all but extinguishing their playoff hope. What is left for them now is to retool in the offseason.

The Chicago Bears lost another close game. They lost another close game by another missed field goal.

The Chicago Bears became the first team to lose back-to-back games at home against teams that had records of 0-5 or worse going on the road. They are now 1-6 at home this season. You can’t do much when you can’t win at home.

As I mentioned, the Chicago Bears lost on another missed field goal by Robbie Gould. After missing two field goals that would have beaten the San Francisco 49ers last week, he missed one against Washington that would have tied the game late.

Was there something that went bad on the play? ‘‘There really were no issues,’’ said Gould.

If that was the case, then something is very bad. Gould is the third highest paid kicker this season and is set to be the highest paid one next season. If everything goes right and he is still missing, that does not bode well for him being on the team in 2016. After starting out 17-for-17 in field goals to start the season, he is just 9-for-15. That’s not good.

All the Chicago Bears are playing for now is to try to surpass last season’s win total, and to determine which players on this roster are good enough to come back on the next roster. A decision may already be made on Robbie Gould.

Let’s see how far down the Chicago Bears go in this week’s NFL Power Rankings for Week 14.
