The Chicago Bears went into Detroit with high hopes of getting their third victory in a row and even out their record at 3-3. What they got, however, was a lot of frustration and a loss that really hurt their season.
The Chicago Bears were feeling very good about themselves. They won two games in a row in exciting fashion, and a couple of their offensive weapons, wide receivers Alshon Jeffery and Eddie Royal, were back in the lineup.
What ended up happening, though, was an early house of horrors. Matthew Stafford found his touch again, torching the Bears’ secondary. Calls were going against them all game long, and they ended up losing to the last winless team in the NFL.
Stafford went 27-of-42 for 405 yards and four touchdowns. He heaved a 57-yard pass to Calvin Johnson late in overtime that set up the game-winning field goal.
The Bears had no answer for Detroit’s passing attack. On the ground, the Lions had 155 yards, but it was a team effort. No one had more than 48 yards, while six players had runs.
This was possibly the most frustrating game of the season.
Jay Cutler did not have a bad game, himself. He went 26-of-41 for 353 yards, but he could only get one touchdown, despite practically living in the red zone. The Bears were in the end zone eight times, converting just three. He also had just one interception, but of course it was a costly one, occurring in the end zone.
Even when the were close to the red zone, the offense broke down. They were in the game because of Robbie Gould‘s four field goals.
This loss may really hurt the Bears’ season. Getting to .500 would have been a morale booster after starting 0-3. Instead, they have to try to figure out what happened in Detroit.
