What The Chicago Cubs Need To Do To Make The Playoffs

2. Hector Rondon Must Continue To Be Lights Out
Hector Rondon has had an up and down season despite the great numbers. He has 25 saves, a 1.50 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP.
Rondon has also had some shaky moments. He had an outing against the San Francisco Giants a few weeks ago where he loaded up the bases with no outs. Of course, he promptly struck out the side a la Mitch Williams.
He also had an outing against the Milwaukee Brewers where he threw a wild pitch that brought in the tying run. In the bottom of the ninth, however, Miguel Montero bailed him out by hitting a walk-off home run.
The Cubs and their fans could do without the excitement. If Rondon can come in and just get the outs, it will be easier on our hearts. Again, though, these are the Chicago Cubs.
After getting pulled in a game against the Washington Nationals in June, Rondon has once again regained the closer’s job. He needs to continue his great pitching to avoid giving the Giants a chance to come back.
Having Pedro Strop and Jason Motte (when he returns from the disabled list) back Rondon helps, but the main job is Rondon’s and he needs to help finish games for the Cubs.
