Power Forward — Horace Grant (1987-1993)

This was a tough one. I had it between Grant, Charles Oakley and Dennis Rodman. Rodman just did not play long enough, and he was just a filler for the great Bulls teams, so I had him third.

I loved Oakley. He was the starter when Grant was a rookie. I think about what could have happened if the Bulls had Oakley at the power rather than Grant.

And that is where I think Grant wins out. Oakley was a defensive force, but had a limited offensive game.

Grant also played great defense, but he was a versatile shooter. He could score inside and also hit a jumper. That separates him from Oakley.

Grant was a member of those Bulls teams that fought hard for a title, having to take their lumps from the Detroit “Bad Boys” Pistons. Grant and the Bulls ultimately broke through, and won three straight championships.

In seven seasons with the Bulls, Grant averaged 12.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists, while shooting 53 percent.

Grant often goes overlooked when people talk about the great Bulls teams. He was instrumental in helping the team win their first three titles, and that should not go unnoticed.
