Center — Artis Gilmore (1976-1981, 1987)

The A-Train was the man in the middle for the Bulls in the mid-70’s to early 80’s. In seven seasons with the Bulls, he averaged 19.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 blocks per game. He was also a four-time All Star while wearing a Bulls uniform.

The assist number is pretty interesting. Joakim Noah, who I believe some would put here instead of Gilmore, is known as such a great passer. Some have even called him a point-center.

Gilmore did not get a lot of attention as a good passer, yet his 2.5 assists per game are just less than half of an assist per game lower than Noah’s (2.9).

Gilmore was truly a double-double machine, averaging in double figures in both points and rebounds.

Gilmore was a four-time All Star while wearing a Bulls uniform.

Gilmore played in a time when the Chicago Bulls were an after-though. Hard-core Bulls fans (and there weren’t many of them around) loved Gilmore, as he was the one most worth watching.

While many love Noah as the best center, Artis Gilmore is truly the best in Chicago history.
