Jay Cutler’s best season in a Bears’ uniform came during the 2013 season. 2013 serving as the first season that Cutler worked with head coach Marc Trestman and offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer.
After the lack of respect that Jay Cutler had for Mike Tice, the goal for the Bears in 2013 was to hire a head coach and offensive coordinator that had Cutler’s seal of approval.
Hello Marc Trestman and Aaron Kromer.
A large reason why Trestman was hired to become the Bears’ head coach was because former general manager Phil Emery believed the former CFL head coach could fix Cutler.
The initial results were very encouraging.
The 2013 season was Cutler’s best season in a Bears’ uniform. Cutler had a QBR of 66.44 in 2013 while also having a career high passer rating of 89.2.
The results in 2013 were so encouraging that Emery decided sign Cutler to a lucrative 7-year contract extensions immediately after the season.
One season into that contract extension and Emery, Trestman, and Kromer are no longer with the Bears’ organization as they were fired after the Bears’ disappointing 5-11 season in 2014. A season where Cutler regressed (54.04 QBR) under Trestman and Kromer and his relationship with the coaching staff was fractured.
The changes made in the off-season has placed Cutler’s future with the Bears beyond the 2015 season as new head coach John Fox and new offensive coordinator Adam Gase enter with no loyalty to the quarterback.
