In what would ultimately be Marc Trestman’s last stand as head coach of the Bears, Trestman decided to bench Jay Cutler for the team’s Week 16 game against the Detroit Lions.

With nothing to lose and his fate already all but decided, Bears’ head coach Marc Trestman decided to start quarterback Jimmy Clausen over Jay Cutler for the team’s Week 16 game against the Detroit Lions.

Clausen seemed to have provided a spark for the Bears but his play was nothing more than ordinary. Clausen had a pair of touchdown passes but that wasn’t enough as the Bears fell to the Lions by a final score of 20-14.

Clausen likely would have been the Bears’ starter for their Week 17 game against the Minnesota Vikings but a concussion forced the team to go back to Cutler. Cutler’s return was an egg as the Bears dropped the final game of their season 13-9 to the Vikings.

The Bears finished the 2014 season on a five-game losing steak.

After the season, the Bears cleaned out their coaching staff as well as their front office. Out was the old regime and in were John Fox as head coach and Ryan Pace as general manager.

Pace and Fox will now be tasked with not only changing the culture for the Bears but bringing the team back from the laughing stocks of the NFL.
