The Cubs Sweep The Mets…Twice

The Cubs are battling the New York Mets for the last playoff spot. It helps their cause when they swept the Mets not only in Chicago, but also in New York.

The Mets boast one of the best pitching staffs in the MLB, but it was the Cubs who showed them some great pitching.

From May 11 through May 14, the Cubs held the Mets to 10 runs while they scored 18. They won in all sorts of fashion, having won on a walk-off, a pitchers’ duel, and a comeback.

Then the Cubs repeated the feat, this time a three-game series in New York. From June 30 through July 2, the Cubs held the Mets to just one run. One run! The team with a great pitching staff was thrown for a loop with some sensational pitching.

This was the kind of series that made the Cubs feel they can really compete and this could be a special season. With just a one game lead in the Wild Card, if they lost a couple of them, the Cubs would be on the outside looking in right now in the playoff race.
