Round 2, Pick 39

Jordan: Benardrick McKinney, ILB, Mississippi State

Carlos: Preston Smith, DE, Mississippi State

Dhruv: Jordan Phillips, NT, Oklahoma

Jordan and myself go with a Mississippi player, but not with the same players. Jordan prefers to go with an inside linebacker, while I prefer a pass rusher.

Dhruv, on the other hand, goes with the big body in the middle of the defensive line. While many had the Bears going with another big guy, Danny Shelton, Dhruv has them getting another one in the second round.

Jordan: “The Bears have done a tremendous job improving their linebacking corps this offseason. But there are still some questions when it pertains to the inside linebackers. For a second round pick, McKinney would give the Bears a plethora of value. McKinney compares to Brian Cushing of the Houston Texans.”

Carlos: “The old adage in football is that you can never have too many pass rushers. Head coach John Fox would agree with that. When he coached with the Carolina Panthers, his first pick was Julius Peppers, so he sees the importance of putting pressure on the quarterback. With Smith available in the second round, I think the Bears jump on Smith.”

Dhruv: “He’s a behemoth and a good fit at nose tackle. in Vic Fangio’s 3-4 defense. Very athletic, good against the run and decent pass rush skills. His production doesn’t match his potential, though. So maybe coaches like Fox/Fangio can bring it out.”
