Chicago Bears 2015 Draft Prospects: Running Backs

Malcolm Brown, 5-foot-11, 224 pounds, Texas
While the first two runners profiled had some elusiveness to their game, Malcolm Brown out of Texas has almost none of that. Brown is a bruiser who delivers blows to tacklers. He doesn’t accelerate, though he is quick. He is a north-south runner who has a good jump-cut to get away from tackles. He is a strong finisher.
Brown follows his blockers well and has good vision to get to the second level.
Chicago Bears
Brown is a plus blocker, who is able to pick up blitzes. He seems to enjoy contact.
Brown ran a disappointing 4.62-40 in the Scouting Combine, but improved that to 4.5 in his pro day last week. He impressed with his positional drills, too. His confidence was riding high after his performance. “I want to be a four-down back who can run the ball, pass protect, catch the ball out of the backfield and, on fourth down, special teams,” Brown said. “That’s something I’m going to put my mind to and work as hard as I can.”
Brown may not be an every down back at the next level. He could be an effective backup and spot starter, though. His specialty can be like a Michael Bush, who was a terrific short-yardage back. Brown is always gaining positive yards, even after taking a hit. He will be an effective red zone runner, who may not get a ton of yards, but will score a lot of touchdowns.
If the Bears decide to use multiple backs, Brown could be a great pickup. He is projected to be picked in the fifth or sixth round, so the Bears won’t have to invest a lot if they pick him up there.
