The Bears draft a wide receiver
Say what you want about Brandon Marshall, the Bears need someone to replace him right away. His production will be difficult to replace. Eddie Royal signed, but he is just a slot receiver, and he won’t have Marshall’s production.
If the Bears don’t have a good replacement for Marshall, fair or not, whatever loss in production experienced will be blamed on Royal, and possibly on Cutler. I’m not saying it should, but the fans will look to blame someone, and who better but the new veteran who has a previous relationship with the quarterback?
There are two receivers getting a lot of attention as top-ten picks –Amari Cooper of Alabama and Kevin White of West Virginia.
Both Cooper and White are very good receivers, but there is another receiver I prefer.
DeVante Parker of Louisville will be a star in the NFL. He has the size at 6-foot-3, and even though he could use to gain some weight, he has surprising strength to jump and fight for the ball.
Parker is an excellent route runner and he has superior footwork that allows him to gain more yards. Those yards help him get to the end zone on a regular basis. At Louisville, he scored a touchdown every 4.7 catches.
There are a lot of good receivers in this year’s draft. Some say this class could be better than last year’s receiving class, which was one of the best receiving classes in history.
Parker should be the pick here if the Bears go that way. He has the tools to be like A.J. Green (though he isn’t on that level just yet). He can score touchdowns the way Marshall did, and he can make some big plays. He could be a star for some time to come.
