Landon Collins, SS, Alabama

The Bears have had trouble with their safeties for decades it seems. The fans’ whipping boy, Chris Conte, is a free agent, so don’t expect him to return in a Bears’ uniform.

The Bears passed on safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix last year, but still did well with Kyle Fuller. Perhaps this year they pick a safety in the first round.

Collins has light feet and fluid hips which allow him to change directions quickly. He is an aggressive safety who is a reliable open field tackler and he is always looking to rip the ball, even as he’s taking the ball carrier to the ground.

Collins was Clinton-Dix’s backup in his freshman season, but became a starter alongside him. Collins led Alabama with 102 tackles in 2014, and his three interceptions were tied for the team lead.

I am concerned with Collins’ instincts. He had some really bad lapses this past season that really hurt the Crimson Tide. He has to improve his awareness in the deep ball.
