Another position that was porous for the Chicago Bears in 2014 was the safety position. The team’s had trouble there for years.

Chris Conte was the fans’ favorite whipping boy last season, and with his struggles on the field and not being able to stay healthy, don’t look for him to re-sign with Chicago as a free agent.

A lot of fans may want to go in on the Ndamukong Suh or Justin Houston sweepstakes, bur signing them will cost a heavy price. McCourty, along with most of the other players on this list, can be had at a much cheaper price, and they can use the extra money to fill other holes.

Fangio’s defense is predicated on attacking the line of scrimmage, causing turnovers and crating points. That is McCourty’s forte — he has 17 interceptions in five seasons.

Fangio had Eric Reid as his free safety, and Reid got seven interceptions in the last two seasons. McCourty has more range than Reid, so he could be a perfect fit.

McCourty could be a champion come Sunday. The New England Patriots have one of the best secondary units in football, and McCourty is the glue to that defense. He can be the glue to a Chicago Bears’ defense that makes a turnaround as well.

The Patriots are known to be frugal in paying their players, so McCourty can be had. He would fit right in and help settle the defense. He should be targeted by the Chicago Bears.
