Use Matt Forte more in the running game…PLEASE!

For those of you who have read my “What To Look For” series, you have seen this before –the Chicago Bears need to give the ball more to Matt Forte!

Forte has been one of the bright spots for the Bears this season. He is second in the league in catches as a running back. Only one other running back is in the top 50, Ahmad Bradshaw, and he is 49th.

Forte is 4th in the league in yards from scrimmage with 1,052, and he is 7th in the league in rushing yards with 562.

Those numbers demonstrate that Forte needs to get the ball as much as possible. I keep harping about what the Dallas Cowboys are doing with Tony Romo and DeMarco Murray. Murray is getting the ball more this season, and he is flourishing. Romo is throwing less, and his bad decision-making has gone down dramatically.

Rushing defense is a very weak point for the Packers. They rank dead last in rushing yards allowed at 153.5 yards per game. They rank 29th in rushing touchdowns allowed with 9. In the first meeting, Forte rushed 23 times for 122 yards.

The Bears need to have Forte rush as much as possible. The more he rushes, the less time Rodgers will be on the field carving out the Bears defense. Also, it will free Cutler to get throws to his receivers. If the Packers try to load the box against Forte, there will be some one-on-one situations for the Bears’ big receivers.

Forte is the biggest key for the Bears on Sunday. If the Bears can use a ball control offense with the running game and short to intermediate passing, there will be some big plays available, and the Packers’ offense would be sitting on the sidelines. If Forte does not get the ball more, it could be another long game for the Bears.
