There is no sugar coating the fact that the Chicago Bears season is on the line come Sunday night. The Bears take their 3-5 record up to Lambeau Field for a Sunday night game against the Green Bay Packers. For the Bears, the team will need a win to preserve any hope of making the playoffs this season.

The Chicago Bears return from their bye week on Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers. For the Bears, the team is currently on a two-game losing streak. Though, the Bears’ most recent loss to the New England Patriots was the team’s worst loss of the season. The Bears lost 51-23 to the Patriots two weeks ago.

Though, dating back to the Bears’ loss to the Packers in Week 4, the team has lost four of their last five games.

Speaking of their loss to the Packers earlier this season, Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers torched the Bears. Rodgers was 22 of 28 passing in that game for a total of 302 passing yards and 4 touchdowns. Rodgers took advantage of the fact that the Bears could not generate a pass-rush in that game. Bears’ defensive end Jared Allen was out for that game. Allen’s first season with the Bears has been a disappointment to this point but that could change with an uptick in production from the former Minnesota Viking on Sunday night.

  • Willie Young will also be inserted in the starting defensive lineup on Sunday night in place of an injured Lamarr Houston. Young has been the Bears’ best pass-rusher this season. Young has seven sacks on the season and the Bears will need the former Detroit Lion to generate pressure on Rodgers on Sunday night.

The Bears will also need a better effort out of rookie cornerback Kyle Fuller on Sunday night. Fuller’s Week 4 matchup against Packers’ wide receiver Jordy Nelson was the first time that the rookie had struggled this season. Nelson totaled 108 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns on 10 receptions in the Week 4 game between the Bears and Packers. The Bears need to follow the New Orleans’ Saints strategy from two weeks ago and take Nelson out of the Packers’ gameplan. Though, such a strategy is easier said than done.

Then, there is the Bears’ offense.

Bears’ quarterback Jay Cutler had a typical Cutler performance in his Week 4 matchup against the Packers. Cutler was 23 of 34 passing for a total of 256 passing yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Cutler has turned the ball over more than any other quarterback this season and that is a stat that needs to change in the second half of the season.

In order for that to happen, the Bears need to take some pressure off Cutler. In other words, utilize running back Matt Forte. In their loss to the Packers earlier this season, the Bears rushed the ball 41 times for a total of 235 yards. Forte had 23 of those 41 carries. While the 41 rushing attempts is something that should be replicated on Sunday, Forte’s rush attempts should be around 25-30 as opposed to only 23. If Forte has close to 30 rushing attempts on Sunday night, that means that Rodgers and the Packers’ offense will be on the sideline for most of the game. On Sunday night, the Bears’ best defense to Rodgers is their offense.

    Prediction

I see this game going one of two ways on Sunday night. Either the Chicago Bears will win a close game, or they will be blown out by the Packers. Unfortunately, all this week, I tried to come up with one reason to pick a Bears’ upset and the only thing I came up with was a lot of empty beer bottles. Therefore, the prediction here is that the Bears lose 45-27 on Sunday night.
