Tuesday brings with it Game 6 of the World Series between the San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals. Jake Peavy, a rumored target for the Chicago Cubs, is on the mound for the Giants and could clinch the World Series title with a victory. If the Giants do win the World Series on Tuesday, then that may set up an announcement by the Cubs. The potential Cubs’ announcement could be to announce Joe Maddon as the team’s new manager. • Current Cubs’ manager Rick Renteria issued a statement on Monday.

"“I was hired nearly a year ago to be the Chicago Cubs manager. Notwithstanding all the speculation, I continue to focus my offseason preparation on achieving the goal we established from the start: bringing a championship to Chicago”"

• The Chicago Bears will be without Lamarr Houston and Matt Slauson for the rest of the season.

"For Houston, the defensive end tore his ACL after celebrating a sack on Patriots’ backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo with three minutes left in a game in which the Bears were trailing by 25 points.For Slauson , the starting offensive lineman suffered a torn pectoral on Sunday."

• Chicago Sports SuperFan CM Punk is believed to have signed a new merchandising deal with WWE, some have speculated that this could be the first step to Punk’s return to the company.

"As noted, WWE has started selling some CM Punk merchandise on their shop website. It appears WWE and Punk have reached some sort of deal. Punk is also in the WWE 2K15 game that comes out this month and the WWE Flintstones movie that comes out next year"

• If Joe Maddon is hired by the Cubs, could Ozzie Guillen be a part of his coaching staff?

"“This is one guy I’d love to coach for,” said the former White Sox manager who’s on the World Series broadcast team for ESPN Deportes. “He’s a very good baseball man. And he’s not a guy who’s going to be looking behind his back thinking I want to take his job.“I’ve managed before. Economically, I’m pretty good. I just want to be back in the game.”"

• Jake Peavy may join Jon Lester in signing with the Cubs this off-season?

"“No, I’m not offering a package to the Cubs,” the San Francisco Giants pitcher said, clarifying the impression he made while talking about himself, the Cubs and his pal Lester. “There’s a package deal out there for any team.”"

Opinions 

• The Cubs don’t want to thwart their positive momentum by handling their current manager situation poorly.

"How the Cubs handle Renteria will be very important. Things have been positive for the Cubs for months now, and they do not want to stop that momentum by having a negative story, especially when this is one of the most anticipated offseasons in recent history. Hope is riding high with the Cubs, and they don’t want to ruin that."
