Marc Trestman Facing First Major Crisis With Chicago Bears
Coach Marc Trestman is facing his first major crisis situation in his tenure with the Chicago Bears. All eyes will be on his handling of this volatile moment in his head coaching career.
The Chicago Bears got embarrassed by the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in their 27-14 loss. The team looked listless, uninspired and basically they seemed like they did not want to play.

Behind the scenes, however, the Bears showed a lot more emotion than the exhibition they had on the field. There was yelling and screaming in the locker room, much of it centered around Brandon Marshall.
Marshall appeared to be the only one showing emotion on the field. He was frustrated with the way the offense bogged down throughout the game. Except for two scoring drives, the Bears’ offense could not get yards, and when it did, it coughed up the ball.

Charles Tillman in the losing “Criticize the fans for booing” contest. People who usually are behind Jay Cutler are now turning on him. And EVERYONE is turning on the defense and defensive coordinator Mel Tucker.
All eyes will be on Trestman, watching how he handles his first major crisis as head coach. It is easy to handle players when things are going well, but the true test for a coach is how he handles players when things go bad.
Trestman is a soft-spoken coach who is known as a non-confrontational person. Sometimes, a coach needs to be confrontational to get a point across. He has to give a player a swift kick in the pants to get him going.
I’m not saying Trestman should go Mike Ditka on everyone, but when there is a problem, the wide receiver should not be the alpha dog in the room.
Of course, it all starts with play calling. Trestman is known as a quarterback whisperer, and he is doing his best to do it with Cutler. He is putting the ball in his hands way too much, and it is costing the Bears wins.
Matt Forte leads the league in catches. Matt Forte, the RUNNING BACK! Again, he was the most effective player on the field against the Dolphins, and again, the ball went away from him, having Cutler make more throwing decisions.
Don’t get me wrong, Cutler has good skills and a rocket arm. He is stubborn, however, and continues to make throws he shouldn’t be making. Yes, sometimes

they work, like the touchdown he threw against the New York Jets in between two defenders for a touchdown. But more often than not, they will result in incomplete passes or interceptions, like in the games against the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, Carolina Panthers and Miami Dolphins.
Trestman is putting his job on the line for Jay Cutler. He should look into what the Dallas Cowboys are doing with Tony Romo and DeMarco Murray. Coach Jason Garrett is taking the ball out of Romo’s hand and handing it over to Murray, who just broke the record for consecutive 100-yard games to start a season.
The Bears have the best all around running back in the league, yet are hesitant to use him. They have to give him the ball more, and take some of the pressure off of Cutler. Why that isn’t being done is beyond me.
The situation Trestman is facing now is critical. Trestman has to have the ability to take charge of the locker room and get things straightened out. If he cannot do that now, then the season could be at risk. If that happens, the fans will be unforgiving and it could be Trestman’s job at risk as well.
