Chicago Bears Week 7: What To Look For

The Bears defensive line must continue their good play from last Sunday.

The Bears defensive line came through finally against Atlanta, and provided a lot of pressure on Matt Ryan. They had four sacks, and had Ryan running out of the pocket and making decisions long before he wanted to.

Jared Allen finally got his first sack. Another player, Willie Young, continued his stellar play this season. He had two sacks and three tackles in the game against the Falcons. He now has seven sacks for the season, tops in the NFL.

The defensive line has to continue to put pressure on the backfield. They not only have to pressure a struggling Ryan Tannehill, but also get in and disrupt Lamar Miller.

Miller has a 5.2 yards per carry this season. He was backing up starter Knowshon Moreno, but Moreno has been out due to injury, and last Sunday against the Packers he tore his ACL and is now out for the season. Now Miller is the man running the ball, and the target is squarely on him.

Miller himself is dealing with a knee issue. It won’t keep him out of the game, but if the Bears can keep the pressure on him, he might not be able to get away as well as he normally could.

As I said, Tannehill is struggling, and it seems the coaching staff is starting to lose confidence in him. Coach Joe Philbin raised eyebrows before the game against the Oakland Raiders when he would not guarantee that Tannehill would be the starter in the game.

If the Bears can pressure Tannehill the same way they did Ryan, Tannehill may make mistakes and the Bears defense can force some turnovers. That is the Bears bread and butter. They can give up a lot of yards, but if they can force turnovers they will be fine.

This should be a game the Chicago Bears should win. Of course, there have been a few games they should have won that they ended up losing. Of the defense can continue to put pressure on the Dolphins secondary, and if the offense can take advantage of their height and strength advantage over the Dolphins’ secondary, then the Bears will come out on top.
