Current Color Commentator Eddie Olczyk has had prestigious positions before, such as head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins, but was he ever the voice of the Hawks? Rob Grabowski-USA TODAY Sports

Dan Kelly is the son of legendary announcer Patrick Kelly, most known for his call of Bobby Orr‘s 1970 Stanley Cup winning goal. Kelly is a jack-of-all-trades, as he has been play-by-play for the Blues, Columbus Blue Jackets, University of Denver hockey and the Big Ten Network, helping with sports from basketball to volleyball.

Eddie Olczyk is a great color commentator. Not only does he do a good job for the Hawks, he also televises national games. Talk about a full slate. Olczyk is highly respected as a broadcaster, and it would make sense to give him the reigns of play-by-play when Foley stepped away. The only question now is whether or not they actually did.

Judd Sirott is pretty well known in Chicago sports for his work with WGN’s coverage of the Hawks and Cubs. He also was the play-by-play guy for the Chicago Wolves for a period, just like Foley.

The last candidate is former General Manager for the team Dale Tallon. When Tallon ended his playing career, he became a color commentator for the Hawks. In fact, he had 16 seasons in the booth, the only question is whether or not any of those seasons were spent as Play-by-Play.
