Perhaps the only thing that can prevent the promotion of Chris Valaika is Logan Watkins who continues to rake at Iowa, and offers equal value of being able to play multiple positions in the infield. He’s been consistent all year long, but as the weather warms up so does the bat of Watkins along with it. In his last 7 he’s slashing a scorching .385/.429/.538. Overall on the year he’s hitting .315/.402/.423 with 7 SB, and an impressive 15 BB to 30 K in 129 total PA.

Another player that is forcing his way on the radar is catcher Louis Flores. He’s likely never going to be part of the core when they start to become perennial contenders, but this season he can certainly challenge John Baker for time as back up to Wellington Castillo. His number are worthy of a mention. The 27 year old career Cub farm hand is hitting .300 and has an obscene .481 OBP while slugging a not so bad even .400 in 82 PA.
