4. Chris Williams, no.14 2008

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports

Chris Williams just didn’t fit the Bears, anywhere. After being taken at no.14 in 2008, the lineman didn’t work out at left tackle, right tackle, or either guard position before being cut by the team. Instead of continuing to try and build a player who had no reason to be on the team, they cut their losses and gave up on the former top-15 pick.

Williams is a bigger bust considering some of the other offensive linemen taken around the same time. Two of the best tackles in the NFL right now were taken in that first round, in Ryan Clady and Duane Brown. Neither of the previous tackles have the same problem, and that what-if leaves Williams higher than the others.

Another major problems is that Williams came in during a time when the offensive line was just beginning to falter. The team went from studs like John Tait and Ruben Brown, to players like Williams and eventually J’Marcus Webb. Thus, when people think of him, they think of failure as a whole.
