117th overall-Jaylen Watkins-Florida- Brother of Sammy Watkins of Clemson. Watkins has good size and speed. Plays with physicality, and suddenness, and is an explosive athlete. He has the versatility to play safety, nickle and on the outside which fits the idea traits of a hybrid player. Offers interesting scheme possibilities and can factor in the pressure scheme as a blitzer. Might be able to start at safety right away and fill a positional need while also giving the defense a valuable play-maker. Can be a special returner and even play as a gunner, and jammer on the special teams unit.
Alternate pick-Phillip Gaines-Rice- Fast explosive athlete who does need development physically and in his technique. Has not played consistently against top level competition, so he likely won’t be able to contribute in a regular rotation yet alone as a starter right away. With scheming he may be able to scratch out 15 snaps a game. Should compete on special teams. His value is more into the future. Has the raw natural ability to be special as a CB at the next level with time on the practice field, and in the film/weight room.
