ESPN recently published NFL extension updates for all 32 teams, and the Bears were listed with Darnell Wright. This comes as no surprise for fans and pundits alike, as it's been widely reported that the Bears intend to sign Wright to a big extension. The offensive line has been a priority for Ryan Poles from the moment he arrived in Chicago. The Bears and Wright reaching agreement on a hefty extension is merely Poles doing his due diligence to his own draft picks that worked out.
There's six more weeks until Training Camp begins. For now, many players consider this their true offseason when they're allowed to take a vacation or have a hiatus at home. History would say that the Bears front office is going to allow that to continue. Poles tends to get his deals done after training camp begins, so don't go waiting on the edge of your seat for it.
The Bears have every reason to lock Darnell Wright up now
Wright came to Chicago in 2023 as the 9th overall pick. Since then, Wright has grown into the starter we see him as today. During the 2025 season, Wright even played through a UCL tear, and despite the injury, he still posted the best numbers of his career.
"When you watch us on offense, we're certainly a little bit more right-handed than left-handed, and that is with him in mind. I think he's one of those tackles that's a powerful player and can displace guys off the line of scrimmage."Ben Johnson
The future is very bright for the offense in Chicago. It almost feels a lock that Wright and the Bears will come to a multi-year extension, and it would be worth it, too. The offense is simply better when Wright is on the field, and the front office would be foolish not to pursue an extension now.
The Bears have finally gotten themselves in a position where foundational pieces have held together, and they finally have the right people in charge. Ben Johnson seems more and more the right choice by the day, and Dennis Allen couldn't be a more experienced coordinator. An extension for a foundational piece like Wright should be a no-brainer for the Bears if they want to be taken seriously as contenders.
