The Chicago White Sox will send Carlos Rodon to the hill to make his season debut on Wednesday.

Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn met with the media on Wednesday. According to JJ Stankevitz of CSN Chicago, Hahn announced that left-handed pitcher Carlos Rodon will make his season debut on Wednesday against the New York Yankees.

"“[Rodon’s] starting his season now,” Hahn said. “He had to alter his training regimen and get himself back on track and we have him out there without restrictions with the same expectations we had for him at the end of last season. He continues to be an important part of our future.”"

Rodon was the third overall pick by the White Sox back in 2014. He has spent time in the big leagues in each of the last two seasons, with varying degrees of success. Rodon has a 3.75 ERA (3.87 FIP) in 139.1 innings pitched in 2015 and a 4.04 ERA (4.01 FIP) in 165 innings pitched last season. He undoubtedly has some nice upside on the mound.

Rodon missed all of Spring Training with a left biceps injury and the White Sox handle him with much caution. He did not begin throwing until May and has worked himself up in three rehab starts. Rodon has been throwing over 90 pitches in his recent starts and seems to be on track for a full workload.

While White Sox fans have been more excited about pitching prospects like Michael Kopech and Reynaldo Lopez in recent months, do not forget about Rodon. He is still an extremely talented pitcher who has ace upside at the big league level.

He is an important part of the White Sox rebuild and his start on Wednesday should be interesting. Right now, the White Sox need as many young talented players in the mix as possible. On Wednesday, one of the most interesting long-term pieces will take the mound.
