Chicago Blackhawks young prospect Alex DeBrincat of the Erie Otters was named this year’s OHL Most Outstanding Player of the Year.

Future Chicago Blackhawks star Alex DeBrincat had a season that many won’t soon forget for the Erie Otters. For his incredible play all season long, DeBrincat has been named the OHL Most Outstanding Player of the Year.

DeBrincat led the OHL with 127 points in 63 games played this year. Those are absolutely amazing numbers for a young player. DeBrincat also had 62 assists and 65 goals.

The Blackhawks struck gold when they drafted DeBrincat last summer with the pick the acquired when trading Andrew Shaw to the Montreal Canadians.

Given his huge success in the OHL, it is almost a guarantee that he will be playing either in Rockford next season or on the Blackhawks. This kid has all the talent in the world and I don’t think that the Blackhawks will shy away from giving him a shot at the NHL level.

At only 19-years-old, DeBrincat now holds the record for most goals scored for the Erie Otters (65) and marks his third straight year of scoring 50 or more goals. DeBrincat has also joined the 300 point club for the Erie Otters, something only three other players in the team’s history has done.

Just looking at his stats and accomplishments, it is very hard not to get excited for what’s to come. As a Blackhawks fan, I can not wait to see him take the ice at the United Center. He is obviously a special talent that only comes around every now and then and the Blackhawks are extremely lucky to have him in their system.

Even though the Chicago Blackhawks need to get younger on defense, an offensive weapon is never a bad thing to add to the lineup. We have to remember that the Hawks struggled to score goals also in the playoffs and adding a proven goal scorer will help lessen the load on Kane, Toews and company.

I would be really shocked if we don’t see DeBrincat at some point this coming season wearing the Blackhawks sweater. He is simply too good to keep down at a lower level.
