The Chicago Bears have reportedly signed free agent wide receiver Kendall Wright to a one-year contract.

The Chicago Bears continue to hammer away at the mid-tier free agent market. According to Adam Caplan of ESPN, the Bears have signed free agent wide receiver Kendall Wright to a one-year deal worth up to $4 million.

Wright was a first-round pick (20th overall) in the 2012 NFL Draft. He is a quick and elusive receiver who can be dynamic out of the slot. However, Wright never reached his full potential with the Tennessee Titans.

He has struggled with injuries throughout his five-year NFL career, but Wright’s production has really taken a slip the past two years as well. His best season came way back in 2013 when Wright caught 94 passes for the Titans for 1,079 yards and two touchdowns. He backed that up with a 57/715/6 stat line in only 14 games (11 starts) in 2014.

Ever since then, Wright has really struggled to stay on the field and has not come close to those numbers again. He has only played in 21 games the last two seasons combined and lost his starting spot on a receiver-needy Titans team for most of the 2016 season.

Wright will get a fresh start with a Bears team that needs a lot of help at wide receiver. Kevin White and Cameron Meredith are the favorites to start on the outside for the Bears, but Wright will undoubtedly have an opportunity to create a role for himself in the slot.

His primary competition for playing time will be Markus Wheaton. Last year’s seventh-round pick Daniel Braverman could also figure into the mix as well.

Wright’s quickness and ability to make plays after the catch could become a big part of the Bears offense. Mike Glennon loves to dump the ball off short. When healthy, Wright is a productive slot receiver who can make plays for his quarterback in the short passing game.

Health is the key here, but the Chicago Bears hit one out of the park with this signing of Kendall Wright. He is a talented player who comes with no risk involved. Great signing.
