Micah Hyde is an under-the-radar free agent target for the Chicago Bears.

The Chicago Bears figure to be major players in free agency. The Bears have over $51 million in cap space (according to Over the Cap) and can easily add about $14 million simply by moving on from Jay Cutler. The Bears could make it rain in free agency this off season if they wanted to.

However, that is rarely the best way to build a team. For sustained success, Ryan Pace needs to build the Chicago Bears through the draft. That does not mean that he cannot supplement his roster through free agency, but spending too big on the open market rarely works out well for the team.

Pace has done a nice job of finding under-valued free agents in recent years. The addition of Akiem Hicks on a two-year, $10 million contract last season was an absolute steal. It will be interesting to see who Pace pin-points as a under-valued player in free agency this off season. Could Green Bay Packers defensive back Micah Hyde be the guy.

Hyde has been underrated with the Packers for many years. He wears a lot of hats for the Packers defense, playing safety, nickel cornerback and outside corner. Hyde is not going to blow you away by doing one specific thing, but he is rock solid across the board.

More from Chicago Bears

Hyde is a strong man-to-man defender who shows natural instincts in coverage. He also shows nice range as a deep safety, good balls and can support the run. On top of that, Hyde is a threat to make an impact in the blitz game.

On top of his defensive prowess, Hyde is an impressive gunner on special teams and a reliable punt returner. I’m telling you, this guy can do it all. As a jack-of-all-trades but a master of none, I could see Hyde going under-valued on the open market. However, it is not hard to see how he could be valuable to a secondary needy team like the Bears.

If the Bears were able to snag Hyde, he would immediately become arguably the best defensive back. Vic Fangio would have a field day using Hyde in a variety of roles.

Micah Hyde is an under-the-radar free agent who would fill a huge need for the Bears. Also, at 26-years-old, he is just entering his athletic prime and taking him away from the Packers would just be the cherry on top.

If Hyde does indeed go under-valued on the open market, the Chicago Bears should make him a priority.
