Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Surprise team trades for number 1 pick
By Ryan Heckman
Late in the draft, the Bears go get a former teammate of their first-round wide receiver by drafting USC running back Travis Dye. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Dye is a back who doesn’t do anything particularly excellent, but does a lot of things well.
He is a solid pass catcher and also possesses great vision. Dye takes very direct steps and is decisive in his running. He’ll continue pushing through the whistle, and runs hard, which is a trait fans have loved about David Montgomery. Speaking of Montgomery, whether or not he is re-signed, Dye is a nice dart throw here late in the draft and should compete for a roster spot.
Lastly, the Bears go after an interior lineman in Louisville’s Caleb Chandler. Ideally, Chicago has already signed a starting tackle and maybe another starting guard via free agency, but Chandler would come in and give them yet another young body to compete in training camp. Last year, we saw Poles go after several linemen late in order to build competition. This type of pick echoes the same strategy Poles took on Day 3 last year.
