Chicago Bears: 5 biggest questions remaining following NFL Draft
Who will be the starting quarterback?
Now that we’ve established there will be football this year (let’s stay positive) who will line up under center for the Chicago Bears when they open the season? As we’ve previously mentioned, the Bears, and in particular Ryan Pace, have an awful lot invested in Mitch Trubisky. When he traded all that draft capital to move up to draft him in 2017, he hitched his wagon to Mitch’s star.
However, general managers rarely get a chance to redeem themselves after striking out on their attempt to draft a franchise quarterback. Yet, with a win-now roster, and an ownership group that generally seems to continue to support Pace’s long-term vision, Pace traded for Nick Foles this offseason to give them another option.
But let’s make no mistake about it — Ryan Pace’s seat will get increasingly warmer if the Bears bottom out this season. The acquisition of Foles, a steady veteran who is intimately familiar with Matt Nagy’s offense, was an attempt to ensure that doesn’t happen.
Understanding the importance of this season, and getting off to a hot start (especially in a shortened season) Pace and Nagy will want to put their best foot forward, and objectively that should be Foles.
Perhaps the biggest reason Foles will win the competition is our next question facing the Bears at this moment.
