3 players the Chicago Bears could trade during the 2020 NFL Draft
Adam Shaheen
Alright, please try not to laugh too hard. Look, I get it. Who in the world is going to want to trade for Adam Shaheen? He’s yet to make any kind of impact on the field, and that’s when he can even get on the field, considering he’s been injured for most of his career. I understand. I even poked a little fun at the idea of Shaheen being on the trade market in the first place.
But the reality is that, according to some reports, the Bears are looking to deal the tight end out of Ashland University. While he has never lived up to the expectations Pace had for him when he selected him back in 2017, this league is full of egos.
And all it takes is one coach who sees Shaheen, some of his unteachable traits, and thinks “I know what’s wrong with him and can get more out of that player.” Truth be told, he has size and speed for the position that you just can’t teach.
Whether he can remain healthy enough to tap into it is another matter. But Rob Gronkowski, to whom Shaheen was compared to early on in his career, was also often injured. Now I’m by no means comparing Shaheen to Gronk, but Bill Belichick was able to extract tremendous value out of a player with a significant injury history. Perhaps he, or someone else could be enticed to do the same?
It certainly wouldn’t be for much, but if the Bears could get a seventh-round pick in return, you’d have to think they’d jump at the chance considering he’s likely going to be released anyway.
