Chicago Bears: 5 tight ends to consider in 2020
By Usayd Koshul
5. Albert Okwuegbunam, Missouri
A physical freak of nature, Albert Okwuegbunam seems like a darkhorse candidate that could end up testing really well at the NFL scouting combine in February and then skyrocket up NFL draft boards.
There’s a lot to love about Okwuegbunam’s potential as a starting tight end in the NFL. He’s got the ideal size (six-foot-five, 255 pounds), to play in multiple different spots in Matt Nagy’s offense. His biggest asset is easily his frame, as he uses it on multiple occasions to beat defenders in one on one battles.
Okwuegbunam has a large catch radius, perhaps the best of any tight end in the class of 2020. This is what makes him such an attractive player since Mitchell Trubisky has shown he isn’t the most accurate quarterback in the NFL.
Over the last three years at Missouri, Okwuegbunam has averaged 12.6 yards per reception and has scored 22 touchdowns. It’s clear that he can be the type of player that can be a big-play threat for any offense and can handle a high volume workload.
As of right now, Okwuegbunam is one name the Bears should be attracted to. What the Bears need in their next tight end is a physical player that can be effective in the slot. Okwuegbunam provides the physicality needed and can also be a guy who’s going to instant impact player from day one.
