Chicago Bears: 5 tight ends to consider in 2020
By Usayd Koshul
4. Hunter Bryant, Washington
More of a passing option than anything, there’s a lot to love about Hunter Bryant but at the same time, there’s a lot of red flags that make you scratch your head and wonder if Bryant is actually NFL material.
Let’s start with the good first: Bryant has shown the ability to be a mismatch tight end that can fight through contact and make catches through traffic. He is a bit raw, however, were he to be drafted by the Bears, he’d sit behind at least Trey Burton before eventually taking over as a full-time starter.
Now comes the bad with Bryant: He’s been injured throughout his college career which will have an impact on where he’s drafted. In three years at Washington, he’s played in just 18 games but has averaged 16.1 yards per reception.
The biggest problem with Bryant may not even be his health, it’s his size. Listed at six-foot-2 and weighing 239 pounds, it’s clear that Bryant is much smaller than any of the other tight ends on this list. This lack of size will be a major factor into where he’s projected to be drafted in the spring.
Considering Matt Nagy’s ability to get creative on offense, Bryant could have his own set of plays that are designed specifically for him. However, he’ll need to stay healthy and continue to produce in 2019 to even get his name on the radar of NFL teams.
