Chicago Bears: 5 tight ends to consider in 2020
By Usayd Koshul
3. Jared Pinkney, Vanderbilt
With excellent size, Jared Pinkney uses basketball-esque moves to beat defenders when it comes to catching passes. Pinkney can consistently be seen boxing defenders out in one-on-situations in order for him to win 50-50 balls.
Perhaps the biggest thing to love about Pinkney’s game is his physical mindset. He’s never afraid to take a big hit when he’s running down the seam. This physical mindset should translate well over to the NFL in terms of when teams ask him to be a receiver on most downs.
One area that’s a major red flag for Pinkney is his blocking ability. In the NFL, often times, a tight ends skillset determines how the team decides to use the player. From what Pinkney has shown, he can be an effective option in the passing game, however, he’ll need to become more physical as a blocker in order to thrive at the NFL level.
Overall, Pinkney is a guy that as of right now, will be available on day three of the NFL Draft. With the Bears projected to have multiple day three picks in 2020, Pinkney is a name to keep an eye on. Under Matt Nagy, the Bears have proven that when it comes to tight ends, guys will have a specific role in the offense based on what their skillset is.
