With seven tackles and one pass breakup, John Franklin III has had an up and down preseason for the Bears so far. On one play, he appears as if he’s ready to be the fifth cornerback for the Bears on the depth chart and on the very next play, he looks like he needs another year to develop on the Bears practice squad.

This week, Franklin will end up facing Darius Jennings. Looking at Jennings, he’s not going to be a game-changer for the Titans on offense, however, he is the type of guy that will catch a few passes occasionally.

In 2018, Jennings caught 11 receptions for 101 yards, averaging 9.2 yards per reception. So far in preseason this year, he’s caught three passes, averaging nine yards per reception. Jennings is the type of player that the Titans will go to depending on the situation.

To shutdown Jennings, Franklin will need to ensure that Jennings doesn’t blow past him in coverage. Since Jennings can be considered a slot receiver in many ways, he’s going to get a majority of yards by operating from the slot and turning short passes into long big gains. Franklin will need to disrupt his timing at the line of scrimmage in order to not get beat on multiple plays.
